What the West Was....... a huge sign greets me as I enter a place I never could have ever imagined before - when they mean there is nothing out there - THEY MEAN THERE IS NOTHING OUT HERE! It is a combination of being on safari in Africa and just plain being in the middle of no where - (And instead of spotting any of the BIG 5 (lions, elephants, rhino's, ect) in the middle of the Serengeti, I'm busy spotting the BIG 5 of West Texas, that would include, Jack Rabbits, Prong horned sheep - ,as JAck likes to call them, a combination of antelope/deer looking things - , wild pigs, buffalo, cotton tailed bunnies (although those I'm busy dodging dead or alive on the open road, you'd think they'd give each other the memo about NOT CROSSING the road, b/c every morning I'm counting dozens, yes dozens, that weren't there the day before! And no road crew comes by to clean them up, they're left for the buzzards who come scrap 'em off the pavement for their daily meals........ oh and did I mention the crazy goats that climb the one loan tree out here or trot along the side of the roads, and then of corse the rattle snakes and giant tarantulas - and lastly the common farm cows and horses that occupy many of these thousand acre ranches........ it's a whole 'nother world out here!!!

Our offices our set up in the old feather factory that has since gone out of business, we are located at 1 fancy feather way, marfa, tx. don't bother GPSing it, it won't show up......... from route 90, just take a right at the main Marfa intersection (no, don't look for stop lights, they don't exist either..you'll just know) and we're about four miles down on US 67 South, right before the US Border Patrol check point, did I mention they found 1200 lbs. (NO EXAGGERATION) of marijuana, last week, left in an abandoned truck with two flat tires on the ranch that is now our set, but don't worry the mexicans came back for their stash with a new and improved truck before WE could sell it all off, and border patrol ended their streak of high rollin'...... back to our offices - , the feather factory, where they used to raise ostriches in incubators, pluck their feathers and make all the vegas show girls costumes - our construction crew is sure bummed the girls won't be coming by for their fittings any more....... instead this ginormous warehouse with remnants of feathers floating around - is where our production has begun, we got satellites installed for our internet that now supplies the entire town with WIFI and multiple phone lines for contact with the outside world!

FOOD on the other hand is scarce out here! Care packages would be greatly appreciated!!!!! We're surviving from one lone generic grocery store, the 'Food Basket'.....enough said......... and the restaurant situation, WOW - woke up starving after my first night here (would have eaten dinner but everything closes at about 6pm) , I went to check out the 'Hot Breakfast' the hotel serves every morning, much to my dismay it was white bread for toast and 'tang' for orange juice (you know that orange powder sugar crap that says, just add water' I nearly died), drove to the grocery store got a jug of OJ and a box of oatmeal, mmmmmm mmmmm! - so we're getting creative........ though we have come across a few (as in one or two) other places, but hours and days of operation...very limited!

despite the adjustment to primitive culture, it actually is quite wonderful waking up in such a uniquly beautiful place....... I'm very content and honored to have this opportunity to work out here these next three months, there's a peacefulness that doesn't exist in the big city and a calmness that sooths the soul every glance into the wide open landscape...... I will say it is constantly an adjustment to look out the window and not see big buildings, strip malls, and starbucks (boo-hoo)..... and as soon as the sun goes down it's pitch black, you can hold out your hand in front of you and not find it - - thus begins another day of searching for food, dodging rabbits and making a movie - -

Trip Prepping

Getting ready to leave for Marfa, Texas in a few days.
